How to Get Rid of Mold in Your Apartment and House in Tucson, AR

Mold is a fungus that can grow on any surface under favorable conditions: it must be warm and humid. Mold spores are always in the air, from humidity they swell, settle on the surface and germinate.

If the material is dense, like glass or ceramics, then the mold remains a film on the outside. If it is porous, like plastic or wood, then it can grow deep – then it is more difficult to remove.

Mold can cause coughing, runny noses, irritate eyes, or worsen skin conditions like eczema. Everyone reacts differently to mold: people with mold allergies and asthma are more sensitive, while others may not have any symptoms.

Mold is also dangerous for furniture. If the fungus grows, for example, on upholstery, wooden or plywood parts, it gradually destroys them. It is almost impossible to clean soft surfaces: chlorine is the most effective way to remove mold, but it also destroys them.

Why does mold appear in an apartment or house?

Fungal spores are constantly present in the air in the room: they get in through a window or ventilation from the street, we ourselves bring them in on clothes and shoes. If the house is dry and well ventilated, fungal spores are not dangerous – they will not grow. But if it is damp, mold spots will appear.

Causes of mold. Mold develops under certain conditions:

  • Poor ventilation.
  • High humidity – fungus usually develops when the air humidity is above 60%.
  • Darkness.
  • Temperature below +20 °C.

It turns out that mold can appear, for example, on frozen walls, on tiles under a leaking faucet, next to leaky pipes. Apartments on the top floor of the building and on basement floors are also at risk. And in regions with high humidity, as in my case, mold grows almost everywhere.

Signs of mold. Even before the characteristic coating appears, you can figure out where the mold is developing. It is given away by water stains – on the ceiling, at the junction of walls, under the window sill, around pipes and central heating batteries. Later, a white, gray or red coating appears on this surface.

Mold can also be suspected by the characteristic smell – musty, damp. But it does not appear immediately, but when the fungus has captured a large area. This is possible in warehouses, on basement floors, in the basement, in abandoned houses. In apartments where there is mold only at the joints in the bathroom or on the windowsill, there will most likely be no smell.
